Humanitarian Effort
Meal on WheelsThe Knoxville/Knox County Community Action Committee Office on Aging manages the Senior Nutrition / Mobile Meals Program. The goal of the Mobile Meals program is to ensure that seniors with restricted mobility are provided with healthy, nutritious meals. The Program is partially funded by the federal government and supplemented by local United Way and private sponsorships. Over 750 meals are prepared every weekday at the Mobile Meal Kitchen, a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen located on Western Avenue. Once a week a team of QE² staff spend their lunch hours delivering meals in the Powell area. The Office on Aging is grateful to have dedicated routine volunteers, and our rewards are the smiles and notes of gratitude received from the Mobile Meals recipients. Taking our health and mobility for granted is easy and probably typical of most of us. Helping those with diminished health and mobility reminds us how lucky we are and that in the event of ours failing, there are caring people in the community who are pleased to be of assistance. QE² management extends its appreciation to our staff that volunteer and make this possible. Parties who are interested in assisting the Mobile Meals program can contact Jennifer Oakes, Volunteer Coordinator,
Saving Little Hearts | www.savinglittlehearts.comSaving Little Hearts is devoted to helping children with congenital heart defects and their families. QE² is an annual sponsor of the Saving Little Hearts Putt Putt Golf tournament.
Compassion Coalition | www.compassioncoalition.orgWe strive to walk alongside Knoxville-area churches who earnestly desire to slow down and respond to the cry of the suffering, the broken, and the abandoned within their congregations and out in the community. We believe that transformation begins to occur when churches prayerfully go out to serve existing ministries of compassion and justice already in the community, while also initiating and sustaining non-existing ministries both within and outside their membership. QE² is a corporate outreach point for the Compassion Coalition's request for community services. Through the Compassion Coalition, QE² personnel donate their time to renovate and upgrade private homes in the Homes of Hope program, mentor at-risk adolescents and respond to emergency needs for personal assistance to those in need. |
